Liverpool’s record signing, Alexander Isak, finally pulled on the famous red shirt at Anfield.
The Swedish striker started in the 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid and lasted 57 minutes on his debut. While he didn’t find the net, his arrival still created plenty of excitement for supporters eager to see the £100+ million man in action.
Alexander Isak had not played a competitive match for four months, so his sharpness was always going to be in question.
Yet manager Arne Slot was quick to praise what he saw. Speaking after the game, he said: “Isak seemed to be quite fit to me. That was the most positive thing. He was fitter than I expected… he’s not ready for three games a week yet.”

A glimpse of what’s to come
It was a mixed display. For nine minutes, Isak didn’t touch the ball. When he finally did, it was a misplaced pass.
Soon after, though, he showed flashes of his quality, linking with Florian Wirtz and offering a focal point in attack. His best moment came just before halftime when he turned and fired narrowly wide — the type of chance that will likely find the net once his rhythm returns.
Slot has been trying to build a more attacking Liverpool side, but that also comes with risks. Atletico managed to fight back from two goals down to level the game before Virgil van Dijk struck late.
The openness in midfield was clear, something the Dutch coach will need to balance as the season unfolds.

For now, Liverpool fans will be encouraged that their new striker has already shown signs of promise.
The goals will be expected soon, but Slot has asked for patience. The Reds may not yet have the “finished article,” but Anfield could be watching the start of a new partnership in attack.
