Liverpool manager Arne Slot has explained why he allowed his players 2 days off before their match against Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League.

One of the reasons the Dutch tactician’s tenure at Anfield is going great is the discipline in the players he inherited from Jurgen Klopp, a feature that they have kept up into the Slot’s first season in charge.

Before the Reds’ trip to Manchester City, Slot made some changes to his side’s pre-match preparations this week as the players were allowed an extra day off before they met with Man City at the Etihad.

Slot’s unorthodox rest plan stuns City

As per thisisanfield, Slot chose to host his pre-match press conference on Thursday as he wanted his players to have Friday as an off day, regardless of it being just two days before the Manchester City clash.

Since Slot came in, he has adjusted to give his players the day off two days before their home matches. It also appears that the results of these policies are evident as Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win at Anfield against the Citizens in December just four days on from a frenzied victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

While other managers may be having headaches over tactics, Slot likes to keep it cool and this does seem to be working the trick for the Reds.

The manager explained that he wanted his players to get rest on Friday in preparation for their big clash on Sunday as they forge ahead in their pursuit of Premier League success.

Another strategy of the manager is allowing his players to sleep at home, instead of in a hotel before home games. According to him, this gives them the chance to have a more relaxed night’s rest as he believes there is no rest like the one taken at home in one’s bed.

The methods and patterns of the manager may not be as traditional and as many expect, but they are working and he would be hoping they continue to pay dividends when the Reds take on Pep Guardiola’s City at the Etihad Stadium.
