With Liverpool in the midst of their Asia tour, Andy Robertson has opened up about what the squad is focused on during pre-season.

As one of the team’s senior figures, the left-back stressed the importance of building both fitness and mentality heading into the 2025/26 campaign.

The Reds landed in Hong Kong earlier this week, with friendly wins against Preston and Stoke already under their belt.

As Robertson prepares for his ninth season with the club, he’s helping guide a squad blending seasoned veterans with fresh talent like Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

“We’ve been working hard,” Robertson said to Liverpool FC.

“We’ve been back maybe two, two-and-a-half weeks now and it’s just about building up fitness.

“We look good in training, but we need to probably get the game sharpness up still.”

For Robertson, the focus is simple: win everything, even in training.

“You want to win, whether it’s training or whether it’s games. That will stand us in good stead for the season ahead.”

Robertson also spoke about the responsibility that he and other senior players, Alisson, Van Dijk and Salah, carry when it comes to welcoming new faces.

“We take great pride in that. We were all young before.” he said.

“Helping them settled in – finding houses, even just getting them settled with their family, because we know how important that is – it’s so important.”

Robertson explained that these pre-season trips offer valuable time for bonding, especially for international players adapting to a new league and culture.

“Hugo has just come in so we’ll have our first dinner with him tonight. But Jeremie, Milos, Gio, Flo have all settled in quite quickly and it’s as if they’ve been here for months now.”

According to Robertson, the integration off the pitch helps fast-track understanding on it.

“It’s just up to them to then understand the standards of playing with Liverpool, and I think they’re getting to grips with that already.”
