The future of Alexander Isak at Newcastle has taken a dramatic turn after Liverpool’s £120m signal sparked growing uncertainty.
Newcastle had long maintained a firm stance regarding Alexander Isak’s future, insisting their prized forward was not for sale under any circumstances.
The 25-year-old was not believed to be seeking a move, and senior journalists close to the club, including The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, consistently played down speculation.
However, recent developments suggest a shift in dynamics. Ongoing attempts to secure Isak to a new and improved contract have stalled amid changes within Newcastle’s hierarchy.
According to reports, this delay has left the player’s representatives feeling “insulted,” while external interest, most notably from Liverpool, appears to have unsettled the striker.
Though Isak has not publicly agitated for a transfer, the situation has become increasingly delicate. With the player now reportedly considering his options, Newcastle may face a more precarious scenario than initially anticipated.

Liverpool’s interest lingers despite Hugo Ekitike arrival
Liverpool have now secured the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, with a deal worth over €90 million — potentially rising to €95 million with add-ons.
The 22-year-old French striker has signed a six-year contract until June 2031, having made it clear that Liverpool was his preferred destination.
However, reports indicate that interest in the Newcastle striker may still be active — particularly if further outgoings occur.
BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel noted that even with Ekitike’s arrival, Isak remains a consideration, especially if either Darwin Nunez or Luis Diaz were to depart before the window closes.
Liverpool had previously signalled to Newcastle a willingness to offer up to £120 million for Alexander Isak, underlining the seriousness of their intent.
While no formal bid has yet been submitted, that figure alone suggests the door remains open, even if a move materialises later rather than imminently.
Isak’s omission from a recent pre-season friendly has only added to the speculation, and The Independent has reported that “a feeling is growing that Isak’s head has been turned.”
Newcastle, once confident of retaining their star forward, may now be forced to navigate increasing uncertainty both on and off the pitch.
