Liverpool’s iconic forward Mohamed Salah has left fans wondering if this could be his final season at Anfield.
The Egyptian star, whose contract expires next summer, has yet to commit to a new deal, sparking speculation about his future.
Mohamed Salah focuses on the Present
At 32, Salah is taking a day-by-day approach to his career, as he revealed in a recent interview.
“Before the season, I was just like: ‘I’ve got one year left, let’s just enjoy it and don’t think about the contract,'” Salah told Sky Sports. “I don’t want to think about next year or the future, I just want to enjoy the last year [of my contract] and let’s see. The most important thing is to take one day at a time and just be grateful to be here.”
Salah’s words have stirred concern among Liverpool supporters, especially after the club reportedly turned down a £150 million ($198m) offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad last summer.
With his contract set to expire in 2025, Salah could leave as a free agent if no extension is agreed upon, putting Liverpool in a difficult position.
Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for £34 million ($45m), Salah has been nothing short of sensational, scoring 213 goals and providing 90 assists in 351 appearances.
His incredible contributions have made him one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever signings, and manager Arne Slot will undoubtedly want to keep him at the club.
As Salah prepares to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, fans are left wondering if this could be the last time they see him in a Liverpool shirt against their fierce rivals.
With teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also nearing the end of their contracts, Liverpool could be facing a major overhaul if they can’t retain their key players.
Salah’s future remains uncertain, and while he’s focused on enjoying the present, Liverpool fans will be hoping this isn’t the beginning of the end for one of their modern legends.
