Liverpool FC are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as they seek to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

The Reds’ focus has shifted to the transfer market after finishing their campaign with a 4-4 draw against Southampton, a game that held little significance for either side. Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as the latest name on Jurgen Klopp’s wish list, according to journalist Rudy Galletti.

Rudy Galetti has told GIVEMESPORT,

“Liverpool want to be competitive again in the Premier League and for this reason, one of the main targets of the next summer transfer market is to strengthen the midfield.

And yes it’s true, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is among the names in the list.

His contract will expire in 2024 and Lazio, to avoid losing him as a free agent next year, will have to sell him in the summer.”

Milinkovic-Savic to Liverpool: Possible?

Liverpool’s midfield has been identified as an area in need of reinforcement, with Jude Bellingham no longer a likely target. While Alexis Mac Allister is expected to join, doubts have arisen regarding a potential transfer for Mason Mount, who is said to prefer a move to Manchester United.

Milinkovic-Savic’s contract with Lazio is set to expire in 2024, prompting speculation that the Italian club may be forced to sell him this summer to avoid losing him as a free agent next year. According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, the Reds could sign the Serbia international for as little as £22.5 million this summer.

Milinkovic-Savic’s Impressive Quality

In his 339 appearances for Lazio, Milinkovic-Savic has contributed to 129 goals, demonstrating his offensive impact beyond his defensive skills. With nine goals and eight assists this season, he has also completed 1.45 blocks and 1.3 clearances, and an eye-catching 3 aerial duels won per 90.

The Serbian midfielder has been exceptional in recent years, earning plaudits from his club president and agent. Liverpool faces competition from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle in the pursuit of Milinkovic-Savic, who has been valued at around £35 million.

The Reds, who will see the departure of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, recognize the need for an experienced midfielder like Milinkovic-Savic to enhance their squad.

With his impressive goal contributions and defensive abilities, the Serbian would be a significant addition to Liverpool’s midfield, signaling their intent to compete at the highest level.
