According to the reports of Fabrizio Romano, Enzo Fernandez was neither in the starting lineup nor on the bench against Portimonense.

The Argentine has a very bright future but his current situation at Benfica doesn’t look good.

The current situation

The Benfica star is currently under huge transfer speculation for the past few weeks. Liverpool and Chelsea seem to be the main suitors for the World champion. The talks are ongoing with both the Premier League club but it’s far from over. According to the reports, Enzo himself is pushing to leave Lisbon.

The Argentina international didn’t turn up to training earlier this week as a result he was being left out of Benfica’s matchday squad against Portimonense.

Romano on Fernandez

According to the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Fernandez isn’t even going to make the bench for the Portuguese club’s game on Friday night. Romano has described his situation as ‘complicated’.

The Argentine is stuck with his current club. He can either apologize to the Portuguese club and go back to the squad or look for a way out. The second way is more likely by looking at the current situation.

Benfica will not accept anything less than £105M for the player, while Fernandez is desperate to leave Lisbon for any PL club.

Liverpool’s crisis

The Reds are also looking for a talented midfielder to revamp their quality in midfield. The addition of Cody Gakpo has already solved their one concerning area which is the forward line.

The 21-year-old could now be the next transfer target for Klopp’s side. His ball progression and ball-holding capacity in a tight situation are essential in the geganpressing system. But that £105M is the main hurdle for LFC considering their financial turmoil.

The Merseyside giants are sitting at the 6th position in the PL table. Will they take the financial risk to sign the Argentine youngster?
