Jurgen Klopp gives an update on Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez ahead of the Champions League encounter against Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan international was forced off just before the hour mark in the Premier League fixture against the top 4 contenders Newcastle United. So far Liverpool number 27 has scored 11 goals this season.

There was fear that the injury will sideline Darwin for the upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against the 14 times Champions League winners Real Madrid. The last time the Reds faced Los Blancos was in the 2021-22 Champions League final, where the Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr scored the only goal which led Los Blancos to Champions League glory.

The Reds will be looking to settle the deal this time. Nunez is a crucial player for the Merseyside giants, his on and off-the-ball movement certainly initiates quick counterattacks in the opposition box. Klopp will certainly not want his crucial player to be out for this crucial fixture.

Klopp on the availability of Darwin Nunez against Real Madrid

The German boss told the reporters about Darwin Nunez

“There is a chance. We have to see how he is today. When we know that we will make a decision.”

When the Reds head cached was asked about Vincius Jr he said

“You try to deny passes to them but the problem we have is if you can defend Vinicius properly, then there’s [Karim] Benzema or Rodrygo or whoever. Then there’s [Luka] Modric. They have world-class players, you have to defend them collectively”.

The Merseyside giants are also facing problems defending set pieces as claimed by the ex-Red player and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

But the good news is the English giants are currently in a good form. They have won back-to-back games which have certainly boosted their confidence. Thus, tomorrow will be a good day to continue the winning streak.
