Liverpool fans eagerly waiting to see new signing Federico Chiesa in action will have to hold their breath a little longer.
The Italian winger, who joined the Reds for a bargain €12 million plus add-ons, has once again been left out of the squad, sparking doubts over his availability for the upcoming Champions League clash against AC Milan.
The 26-year-old has faced multiple injury setbacks in recent years and hasn’t had the chance to build up match fitness since arriving at Anfield. With Liverpool’s perfect Premier League start in full swing, many had hoped to see Chiesa make his debut soon, but it seems the wait will continue.
Chiesa cut from Liverpool squad again
Liverpool manager Arne Slot named an unchanged starting XI for today’s game against Nottingham Forest, meaning Chiesa won’t be making his first appearance just yet. Fans had hoped he might feature against Milan at the San Siro next week, but his absence from the squad today suggests that his debut may have to wait until next weekend’s clash against Bournemouth.
Chiesa’s injury history has been a concern, and Liverpool’s cautious approach to his return is understandable.
The winger hasn’t played since his move from Juventus, and missing pre-season didn’t help his fitness levels. But for now, Liverpool fans will have to wait a little longer to see what Chiesa can bring to the table.
With the Reds looking to maintain their perfect record, Slot opted for familiar faces. Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah lead the attack, while Ibrahima Konate partners Virgil van Dijk in defense. In midfield, the in-form Ryan Gravenberch continues alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
As Liverpool prepare for a busy schedule, with games coming thick and fast, fans can only hope Chiesa’s debut is just around the corner. For now, though, it’s “so close, yet so far” for the Italian star.
Liverpool confirmed starting XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota.
Subs: Kelleher, Gomez, Endo, Nunez, Jones, Gakpo, Tsimikas, Quansah, Bradley.
