Why former Premier League striker can’t play against Liverpool tomorrow?
Liverpool will face Italian giants AC Milan in their first Champions League game, but former Liverpool striker Divock Origi will not play.
Origi left Liverpool in 2022 to join AC Milan but struggled to make an impression for their first team. He then joined Nottingham Forest on loan but still failed to make an impact.
Origi is a cult figure among Liverpool fans, he was part of many iconic moments in the Jurgen Klopp era.
Divock Origi not part of AC Milan squad
Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi will not be part available for tomorrow’s Champions League as he is no longer part of Milan’s first team. AC Milan has demoted Origi to Milan Futuro, the club’s reserve team that plays in the third division of Italian football.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (senior advisor of Red Bird, the owners of AC Milan) to CalcioMercato : “It’s not true that they haven’t been called up. The two of them have been called up, but for the Milan Futuro team. They are not part of the first team”
AC Milan expected Divock Origi to leave after demoting him to the reserve team, but the 29-year-old failed to secure a transfer. Origi just scored 2 goals for AC Milan in 36 appearances, and only 1 goal during his loan spell at Forest.
Origi was part of the Liverpool team that travelled to the San Siro 21/22 Champions League campaign. Interestingly Origi scored the winner to help Liverpool beat AC Milan and clear the group stage unbeaten.
Hopefully, Divock Origi can leave AC Milan in January and revive his career at another club.
