What shirt number would Zubimendi acquire at Liverpool?
With each passing day it is looking more and more evident that Martin Zubimendi will join Liverpool, however, the question arises, what shirt number would he wear?
Despite being linked to several players for potential moves, the Merseysiders haven’t really been successful in signing any player.
But that is about to change as Spanish midfielder and recent EURO 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi is strongly linked with an Anfield move.
Probable Liverpool Shirt Number For Zubimendi
The most recent report suggests that he is already on a flight to Liverpool to join LFC. If this signing goes through then he will become the first signing of the Slot era.
So a reasonable question that may occur is what shirt number he would wear to kickstart his Merseyside career.
Zubimendi wore shirt number 4 at Real Sociedad and wore shirt number 18 in the EURO-winning campaign for Spain.
Both the numbers at Anfield are currently acquired by Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo respectively at the moment.
The Spanish midfielder is a defensive midfielder by pursuit and in modern football that role is often referred to as No. 6.
Fortunately, Thiago Alcantara left the club this summer, vacating the number 6 shirt. So that can be a valid option for fellow Spaniard.
However, the pressure of continuing the legacy of Thiago might stray him away towards choosing another number.
Previously, the Real Sociedad star had worn numbers 14 and 15 while he was in the B team of his current club.
The numbers from 12 to 16 are presently free at LFC so he can choose any of those numbers. The same can be said for the numbers from 22 to 25, 27 (previously worn by Darwin Nunez and Divock Origi) and from 29 to 37.
Any number that he might take that will be acquired for the long run as he is deemed as the long-term solution in the No. 6 position.
