Slot’s ruthless blueprint: what he expects from Liverpool’s no. 9

Both Liverpool and the club manager, Arne Slot, struggled a lot with the number nine position.

Liverpool’s current number nine, Darwin Nunez, has been struggling this season a lot. The Uruguayan international is wasteful in front of the goal this season for the Merseysiders.

So, Arne Slot might consider signing a new number nine in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool number nine Darwin Nunez himself admitted to his underperformance in the current campaign. The 25-year-old managed to score only 7 goals and registered 5 assists in his 42 appearences this season.

Nunez scored only one goal in his last 15 matches in all competitions. According to a news report published by ESPN, he himself admitted his goal drought and said, “ball doesn’t want to go in.”

Another Liverpool striker, Diego Jota, is also struggling to score goals this season. The Portuguese also suffered from injuries that ultimately affected a lot in his performance.

Jota made only 32 appearances across all competitions this season, netted 9 goals, and provided 3 assists.

Arne Slot wants more goals from his number nine

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is keen to bring a new face to the number nine position. According to DaveOckop, Slot gave his reaction on this matter. He said,

“Simple one is goals. He needs to produce goals but apart from that, in modern football, No.9s have to work hard and be part of an intense pressing team. All Champions League semi-finalists work their a** off! Can I say that?

In the end, it’s a help if a No.9 of Liverpool scores goals. That is the short answer.”

So, this is very much clear that the Dutch manager is not happy with the goal drought of Darwin Nunez and Diego Jota in front of the goal. He wants more from the team’s number nine.

The Reds are chasing 22-year-old star Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in the upcoming summer transfer window.

However, it will be a tough fight for Arne Slot as other Premier League giants are also keeping their eye on this young French striker.
