Virgil van Djik Unsure About Liverpool
With his contract with Liverpool about to expire Virgil van Dijk is unsure of his future with the team as well as the Netherlands.
Following Holland’s devastating 2-1 semi-final loss to England in the 2024 European Championship van Dijk said,
“I have no idea at the moment.
This summer I’ll give it a lot of thought as to what I want both as an international and at the club level.”
expressing his disappointment and uncertainty.
After a VAR review, Harry Kane’s penalty shot tied the score but Xavi Simons’ early goal gave the Netherlands the lead back.
England’s spot in the final against Spain was guaranteed by a stoppage-time goal by Ollie Watkins.
Contract Extension In Question
Van Dijk, who turned 33 recently, has not yet chosen to extend his Liverpool contract, which begs the question of whether he will stay at Anfield post-2025.
Contract negotiations with Trent Alexander-Arnold Mo Salah and van Dijk will continue to be confidential according to new sporting director Richard Hughes.
“After such a season where all sorts of things happened this just hurts van Dijk said looking back on the semi-final defeat. I put everything into winning and when its almost over you know its over so it gets emotional.”
Said the Liverpool Captain.
The Captain Speaks Out
The Dutch captain also made remarks about Felix Zwayer’s officiating work implying that it wasn’t his best effort. He declared,
“We all talk about respect and communicating with each other but it would be good if those who make the mistakes also take responsibility for it and come here to explain what went well and what did not”
He emphasized the need for accountability. Before deciding on his club and international career Van Dijk intends to take the summer to reflect on his future.
