After Ryan Gravenberch outstanding performance in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Wolves Virgil van Dijk sent him a strong message telling him to remain grounded and focused.
After moving from Bayern Munich, the 22-year-old has continuously shown his talent and won player of the match again for his performance.
Virgil van Dijk warns Gravenberch
Van Dijk who plays for both Liverpool and the Netherlands complimented Gravenberch on his confidence but cautioned him not to take the compliment too personally.
The captain reminded him to keep playing well and to stay focused by emphasizing the value of remaining fit and modest.
Van Dijk said,
“(My message is) stay fit, keep going, stay grounded, and don’t listen to the praise that much,
Just stay calm and play well. He is playing with a lot of confidence with and without the ball.“
Van Dijk also mentioned the solid bond that is developing between Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister who together make up a dependable midfield trio for manager Arne Slot.
He said,
“He has not had a lot of injuries and he is growing into it.
He is very important and (Alexis) Mac Allister Mac Allister and (Dominik) Szoboszlai as well. It is a good triangle and they are still growing and learning.
We did better in the second half in my opinion. In the first half, we scored the 1-0“
Along with giving Gravenberch advice Van Dijk also emphasized the significant contribution Ibrahima Konate has made since rejoining Liverpool’s starting lineup.
Even though the team gave up a goal Konate’s defensive prowess has allowed them to keep the best defensive record in the Premier League thus far this year.
Van Dijk stated that the combination of Liverpool’s youth and experience along with the defensive contributions of players like Mohamed Salah is the reason for their successful start.
He did however issue a warning stating that it is too early to concentrate on the Premier league standings and emphasized the significance of finishing the forthcoming games and avoiding injuries as the season goes on.
