Virgil van Dijk has offered his thoughts on Federico Chiesa and his uncertain future at Liverpool.
The Italian winger joined from Juventus last summer. His arrival brought excitement and high expectations among Liverpool fans.
Chiesa came with a pedigree, having won Euro 2020 with Italy. Many saw the transfer as a smart move by Liverpool’s recruitment team. However, his time at Anfield has not gone as planned.
The Italian has struggled with injuries throughout the 2024/25 season. He has made 12 appearances overall. His first full 90 minutes came in January against PSV Eindhoven.

Federico Chiesa future at Anfield remains doubtful
That performance raised hopes, but his form never fully recovered. Due to limited game time, rumours about his future have grown stronger.
Serie A clubs like Lazio and Napoli remain interested. Recently, AS Roma and Claudio Ranieri joined the race to sign him, as per DAVEOCKOP.
Reports also link him with many unnamed Premier League clubs. Despite this, Chiesa wants to stay at Liverpool next season. He hopes to prove himself and play a bigger role. But van Dijk’s comments suggest the situation remains open.
The Liverpool captain acknowledged Chiesa’s talent and bad luck with injuries. “He’s been a good addition in my opinion,” van Dijk said in a recent interview. “Unfortunately, a bit unlucky with injuries.”
He added, “Let’s see what this summer brings.” His words indicate that Chiesa could leave if circumstances don’t improve. Liverpool will likely evaluate their options after the season ends. Manager Arne Slot may decide on Chiesa’s future soon.
