Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has just revealed that Lionel Messi, one of football’s greatest, as his toughest opponent.

Trent has only played against Messi once in his career, in 2019 when Liverpool beat Barcelona by 4 goals to nil in that iconic UCL semi-final game at Anfield.

Trent was on the bench when Liverpool travelled to Camp Nou for the first leg of that 2019 UCL semi-final in which the Reds were thrashed by 3-0.

Alexander-Arnold names Messi as his toughest opponent

One of the best right-backs in the world right now Trent Alexander-Arnold came through Liverpool’s academy and became the club’s vice-captain, one step closer to his dream of becoming the captain of Liverpool football club.

Trent was asked by JD Football, to reveal his toughest opponent, to which he replied “Messi, just the best”.

Liverpool’s no. 66 also named Salah as the best player he played with, “consistency” was how he described Mohamed Salah.

He also named Thiery Henry as a legend he would have loved to play alongside, “My passing and his speed, would just get along well”

Trent Alexander-Arnold was always been a huge admirer of Lionel Messi. The versatile defender was once asked to choose between Messi and Ronaldo.

He replied: “It has to be Messi for me. The best player I’ve played. The best player that’s ever played the game. To imagine anyone better than what I’ve been able to see, my brain doesn’t comprehend it. There’s no way anyone can be better.”
