Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly close to joining Real Madrid, as a bold plan set in motion by Liverpool over two years ago seems to have backfired.
The Reds face the risk of losing three key players – Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah – all of whom are in the final year of their contracts. With Real Madrid eyeing up Alexander-Arnold, the situation is becoming increasingly tense for Liverpool.
According to a report from The Sun, the creative right-back is “on the verge” of sealing a move to Bernabeu, with the influence of Jude Bellingham playing a significant role.
Bellingham, who has developed a close friendship with Alexander-Arnold, is said to be pivotal in potentially swaying the decision. Ironically, this friendship began when Liverpool tasked Alexander-Arnold with persuading Bellingham to join them, as they sought to rebuild their ageing midfield.
However, Bellingham ultimately chose Real Madrid over Liverpool. And now it seems he may help lure Alexander-Arnold to Spain as well.
Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid: A possibility?
With Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal sidelined by a season-ending injury, the Spanish giants are reportedly ramping up their interest. While a January move is possible, The Sun suggests a free-agent transfer in the summer is more likely.
Despite these reports, there is still hope for Liverpool fans. Football Insider claims the club is “hopeful” of tying down their vice-captain with a new contract.
Moreover, TEAMtalk’s insider, Fraser Gillan, revealed Liverpool are preparing to offer Alexander-Arnold a lucrative deal that could see him become one of the club’s highest earners, nearly doubling his current £180,000 a week wage to match Salah’s £350,000 a week.
However, the threat from Real Madrid is real, and Liverpool can’t afford to be complacent. While they may be confident of securing a new deal, the allure of Real Madrid, coupled with Bellingham’s influence, adds a layer of uncertainty to Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield.
