Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has fueled speculation about his future, with Real Madrid circling as his contract edges closer to expiration.
The Reds’ vice-captain, a homegrown talent who has become one of the world’s best right-backs, remains non-committal on extending his Anfield stay.
Out of contract next summer, Alexander-Arnold can negotiate with foreign clubs starting January. Despite the swirling rumors, the defender prefers to keep contract talks private.
Addressing the situation in September, he stated,
“I have always said I want to captain the club, that is an aim of mine and a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands.”
He further added:
“Look, I have been at the club 20-years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. And this one won’t be either.”
The 25-year-old has been living his dream with Liverpool, with whom he’s played 325 matches, scored 19 goals, and provided 81 assists. Speaking in “Backyard Dreams,” Alexander-Arnold reflected on his journey:
“I never thought I’d play this many games. I never thought I’d win as many trophies or achieve the things that I’ve done. I’m living my dream every single day and I have done from the minute I started kicking a ball until now, to be honest.
Obviously, I didn’t see it as practicing or trying to get better. I just saw it as playing a game with my brothers. But you put the hours in, you get better.”
He also revealed how Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard inspired his footballing ambitions:
“I was Gerrard, for sure, there was no-one else for me. I loved [Fernando] Torres, Luis Garcia, [Luis] Suarez, but Gerrard was the one for me.”
Real Madrid aiming for Alexander-Arnold
Meanwhile, according to talkSPORT, Real Madrid has reportedly informed Liverpool of their interest in signing Alexander-Arnold as a free agent. With Dani Carvajal sidelined due to injury, the Spanish giants view the England international as a long-term solution.

For Liverpool, keeping Alexander-Arnold is a priority. But his connection with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham adds a layer of intrigue to the story.
While the Reds have depth in the right-back position, highlighted by Conor Bradley’s recent Champions League heroics, losing a player of Alexander-Arnold’s caliber would be a significant blow.
As January approaches, the ball is firmly in Alexander-Arnold’s court. Will he continue to live his Anfield dream, or will a new chapter beckon in Madrid? For now, only time will tell.
