Who is Ismael Gharbi? The latest Liverpool target

Ismael Gharbi

According to recent reports, Liverpool wants to sign PSG starlet Ismael Gharbi. The youngster is considered as the future of French football by many.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool have joined the race for the unhappy youngster. The young Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Ismael Gharbi’s priority is to stay at PSG, despite the low game time.

Ismael Gharbi to Liverpool?

He has played just 43 minutes of football this season in cup competitions, hence making him frustrated. However, with the competition just as fierce at Liverpool, it is hard to see where Ismael Gharbi will fit in this team.

If Gharbi expects a fast route into first-team football, then Liverpool is not the place for him.

Having said this, however, it is also important to note that Liverpool have been world-class at promoting young talent under Jurgen Klopp. We have seen players like Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones, Caoimhín Kelleher and Joe Gomez get a considerable amount of game time every season.

Ismael Gharbi also fits the FSG’s profile of signings. They like to sign players before their prime and like to see them grow and reach their potential at Anfield.

If Liverpool does end up signing Gharbi, he will be a brilliant signing for the Reds. Technically he is a superb player. The 17-year-old is so good under pressure that he virtually never loses the ball when pressed.

The Reds’ current midfield lacks slick players. Not only are they afraid of turning on the ball, but most of them are also ageing. Liverpool are currently linked with a host of players in their prime including Kalvin Phillips and Youri Tielemans, but getting someone like Ismael Gharbi will bring more competition.

Liverpool are also, surprisingly, linked with Toni Kroos.

However, Liverpool are not the only club interested in the youngster. According to Hawkins, even Chelsea had approached Gharbi a while back. They outlined their project to him last week before Liverpool became the second premier club to make an inquiry.

If Liverpool are serious about him, they will have to move in for him quickly.
