Liverpool offers to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer from the Catalan club this summer.
Ousmane Dembele has several clubs lined up for his service after refusing to sign a new deal at the Camp Nou club. Barcelona signed Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £126 million back in the summer of 2017.
Along with Liverpool, London giants Chelsea are also in contact with the player’s representatives to sign the winger.
Jurgen Klopp has long been interested in signing Dembele and this could be his chance.
The 25-year-old looks like he is starting to show his full potential, as Barcelona coach Xavi rates him highly and his13 assists this season’s Laliga speaks everything.
Is signing Barcelona star Dembele for free, a good move for Liverpool?
With Sadio Mane likely to leave Liverpool, seems like Liverpool have identified his replacement. The Senegalese star’s future is uncertain at Anfield, moreover, Bayern Munich seems his next situation.
After ending the 2021-22 season with two domestic cups and being runners up in the League and Champions League marginally, reports have suggested Mane informed his teammates of his intention to leave the club this summer.
And to fill the void, the club has made contact with French international Ousmane Dembele.
To be honest, Dembele’s stint with Barcelona so far has not faired well as expected. Apart from his last couple of months under their new coach Xavi, the 25-year-old has struggled in the Blaugrana shirt.
The forward has only 32 goals and 34 assists in 150 appearances to his name for the Catalan club. However, the winger is a much better player than what the aforementioned statistics suggest.
Dembele would be a brilliant option to have in attack as a replacement for Mane. Dembele is a real talent who is skilful in dribbling and passing and plays on both flanks.
But signing Dembele will not come cheap, even if he is a free agent in a couple of weeks’ time, but his asking salary is mammoth. The 25-year-old star currently earns around 20 million euros per season (£327,000-a-week) last winter. According to ABC‘s reports, the Frenchman is demanding a mammoth deal worth 40 million euros per season to extend his stay at the Nou Camp.
Liverpool’s highest earner is currently Virgil Van Dijk at £220,000-a-week. The salary would be the biggest obstacle for Liverpool.
But all that said, a move to Anfield will benefit both sides, as Jurgen Klopp’s presence and his record says he gets the best out of players.
