Romano suggests that Dortmund could take part in the Liverpool transfer heist

Following rumours of Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Naby Keita’s move, Fabrizio Romano has offered another update on the player’s condition at Liverpool.

If Keita leaves his current club at the conclusion of the season as a free agent, a number of teams are interested in signing him, including Dortmund.

The international player from Guinea has been the focus of a lot of conjecture lately. Especially as his Liverpool contract nears its conclusion, and it appears that Dortmund may have him in mind for the upcoming season as they deal with troubles of their own involving star midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Keita’s future at the Anfield

Bellingham is one of the most promising young players in the world of football right now. Romano said earlier this summer that Liverpool had expressed interest in signing him, but he added that a transfer in 2023 seems more plausible.

While it’s unclear whether Keita is being considered as a straight replacement for Bellingham, Romano has stated that a number of teams, including Dortmund, are keeping an eye on the 27-year-old’s position.

Romano:

“Borussia Dortmund are among 3-4 clubs around Europe interested in Naby Keita in case he becomes a free agent”

Naby needs assurances before agreeing to a new contract at Anfield. Therefore the matter is still open with Liverpool. A decision will be made in the coming months.

Keita previously shined in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. A move back to Germany may be the best option for him to restart his career. Especially since he had a few inconsistent seasons in the Premier League.

Keita’s tenure at Liverpool hasn’t been aided by injuries. He hasn’t exactly made the most of his time on the field either. As it seems, it is only a matter of time to see where Keita ends up.
