The contract extension of Mo Salah is what all Liverpool fans desire this Christmas.
Jurgen Klopp is feeling confident about Mohamed Salah’s contract renewal with only 18 months to go on his current deal. However, Liverpool fans are anxious and wish for a new deal for the Egyptian this Christmas.
Liverpool have tied down a number of key first-team players to new deals this season. And therefore, fans are still eagerly waiting for the star forward to put pen to paper on a new contract.
MO Salah ‘The best in the world’
The Egyptian King has been in devastating form this season, so far Mo Salah has scored 22 goals in 24 games for Liverpool. Moreover, he recently equalled the Premier League’s record of scoring or assisting in 15 straight games.
The right-winger is moving Liverpool to a title challenge whilst colouring of his greatness.
Looking at the world stage at this moment, there is no one equal to Salah. And arguably he is one of the most famous Liverpool players ever.
Moreover, Liverpool just can’t afford to lose the Egyptian at any cost.
The Telegraph reports that the winger’s representatives are demanding £400k per week to retain the services of Salah. The Egyptian’s extension demand is double what he’s earning.
If he gets his desired wage, it would make him one of the highest-paid in the league. In fact, Salah probably deserves it.
Liverpool’s current highest wage earner is Virgil van Dijk at £220,000 per week.
So evidently there comes the real issue for FSG. This would see Salah topple Van Dijk by a reported £180,000 a week.
A huge difference in salaries will bring up ego clashes among the squad. And FSG may well be fearing the impact on future signings and re-signings alike.
A contract renewal for Salah will be like a Christmas gift for Liverpool fans
Ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham last weekend, Klopp spoke to Sky Sports. And eased fans’ fears regarding Salah, insisting that talks are happening and have been positive.
Klopp said:
How we see it, we are in really good conversations. That’s it,
I couldn’t care less when it will happen, to be honest. I want it to happen, but when? I couldn’t care less.
We’re in good conversations, that’s it. That’s the answer.
Salah have registered 147 goals and 52 assists in 224 games after joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017. Also, so far in all competitions this season the forward has managed an impressive 22 goals and nine assists in 24 games.
With Klopp’s latest remark on Salah’s contract situation has definitely brought some calmness among the fans.
And a breakthrough would be the best Christmas present Liverpool supporters could wish for.
