The World Cup winner, Adrien Rabiot, has opened up about his love for former Reds captain Steven Gerrard and has gone on to admit that he is a Liverpool fan.
Speaking to Tuttosport, the Frenchman told that the former Liverpool captain was his idol growing up. The 27-year-old also revealed that he was a Reds supporter while growing up.
While talking about his support for Liverpool, Rabiot said:
“I liked Liverpool so much because I was a fan of Steven Gerrard who made me dream and therefore I followed the Reds.”
However, Liverpool are already rumoured to be the frontrunners to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer this summer. With his contract running out in the summer, he has been at his best for Juve since joining from PSG.
Moreover, Rabiot’s value has risen immensely this season having impressed for both Juventus and France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Now, with the midfielder saying he supported Liverpool as a kid, the Reds could have the advantage in pulling off a potential deal.
Moreover, with Naby Keita set to leave Anfield, the number 8 shirt famously worn by Gerrard will become vacant. Furthermore, the prospect of wearing the same kit as his icon could convince Rabiot to join the Reds.
Could Klopp sign Liverpool fan in Rabiot?
Liverpool would face a huge task in signing the World Cup winner as he has had his value increase with his terrific form lately. However, given how much the Reds mean to the Frenchman, a deal could be easier to pull off than first imagined.
He joined Juve from PSG in 2019 for free and has played 162 games in which he has 15 goals and registered 10 assists. The midfielder has won the Italian League title and the Copa Italia with Juve.
A potential move to Anfield could be a win-win situation for the Merseysiders and the Frenchman.
