Liverpool boss, Arne Slot has spoken about circulating rumours and news about the contract extensions of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. The Reds manager opened up on the situation in his press conference on Wednesday ahead of Liverpool’s second-leg Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Slot was questioned during the press conference on whether Egyptian forward and talisman, Mo Salah alongside club captain Van Dijk had extended their contracts with the club.
There was quite the buzz on social media in the early hours of Wednesday as rumours spread that both players had secretly put pen-to-paper on new deals at Merseyside, and the club chose not to announce it publicly in order to avoid mounting pressure on Real Madrid target Trent Alexander-Arnold to follow suit.

Slot’s verdict on reports of Salah and Van Dijk contract extensions
The Dutch tactician dismissed reports claiming that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have secretly committed their futures to remain at Anfield by signing fresh contracts with Liverpool.
When questioned about the futures of the two key players, Slot clarified that neither player had signed new contracts yet and also admitted that Liverpool’s transfer plans for the summer remained uncertain for the same reason.
The manager said about the situation:
“We have some contractual situations that you might not know about, but as of now, Trent, Mo and Virgil have not extended their contracts yet.”
He also added:
“We are aware that we need to stay sharp and prepared for any changes. My focus is on the short-term, but we have a lot of people at the club who are looking towards the long-term as well.”
Discussions are still ongoing between Liverpool and both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk regarding potential contract extensions, as the club works towards securing their long-term futures at Anfield.
In addition to this, Liverpool are also maintaining hope that Trent Alexander-Arnold despite interest from Real Madrid, will choose to remain committed to his boyhood club rather than make a move abroad.
The Reds are determined to ensure their key players remain with the team, and their efforts are focused on ensuring that the club can retain its important figures for years to come.
