Barcelona midfielder, Frank Kessie could be everything that Liverpool hoped ex-midfielder, Oxlade-Chamberlain would be in midfield.
As per Sport, Liverpool are mulling over the idea of signing the Ivorian midfielder, Kessie from Barcelona. The player has also found minutes hard to come by at the Catalan club.
Liverpool have reportedly lodged an early opening offer for the Ivorian midfielder after a lackluster maiden year in Catalonia. Since arriving from AC Milan last summer, he has been impressive at times and dull the others.
He has, however, won the La Liga title but has failed to reach the same heights that he achieved in Italy. The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could now offer him a lifeline.
Frank Kessie: latest man on radar of Liverpool
The box-to-box menace played an important role in Milan’s Serie A-winning 21/22 campaign. He earned an average rating of 7.07, as per Sofascore. He played 31 league matches, scoring six goals and completing 89% of his passes as he provided a robust presence at the heart of the outfit.
Meanwhile, at Barca, he has played 43 times across all competitions but has started only 7 matches in the league. He might be looking for time on the bench for the next season as Barca look to sign a new midfielder.
As per journalist Sacha Pisani, the Reds need to sign the Ivorian as he could be the perfect Oxlade-Chamberlain replacement. He has been hailed a ‘beast’ by the journalist who would add an invaluable physicality and a progressive presence.
How would the Ivorian fit at Liverpool?
The Liverpool midfield has been sapped of energy and vitality this term in a stark decline. Due to this, they haven’t been able to qualify for the Champions League as well. However, new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke must now implement the optimum strategy to rekindle the former fire.
Kessie, who did play a peripheral role this year, has missed only seven matches due to unavailability. He also boasts the kind of progressive nature that Klopp needs to get the Merseyside machine whirring again.
Moreover, described as “sensational” by reporter Carlo Garganese, the £150k-per-week ace would be an excellent addition for Klopp. He would be bolstering the ranks, adding some much-needed physicality, and resurrecting the steely tenacity that has seemed to be faded.
