Troy Deeney has singled out Mohamed Salah for criticism after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth, claiming the Egyptian forward put in a “poor” performance. While the Reds bounced back from their loss to Nottingham Forest, Salah’s display left Deeney unimpressed.
Liverpool, back at Anfield, knew they had to up their game after the Forest defeat. Early signs were not promising, with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo having a goal ruled out and forcing Caoimhin Kelleher into a key save.
Yet, as the game progressed, the Reds took control, largely thanks to stellar performances from Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, both of whom found the back of the net.
Ryan Gravenberch also shone in midfield, continuing his impressive form, while Alexis Mac Allister was solid as ever. And Kelleher proved his worth as one of the best backup keepers in the league with a string of crucial saves.

However, despite the win, Deeney was quick to highlight Salah’s struggles. Speaking to TalkSPORT, the former Watford striker did not mince his words:
“I think Salah has been poor this second half. He has had a couple of opportunities where he could have got his shot off.
He tried to score the perfect goal, and if I was Diogo Jota on the bench, I would be a little bit frustrated that he hasn’t changed all three here.
Looks like the manager is trying to get Salah playing well. Because in the 65 minutes last week, he was poor and now he is getting these opportunities.”
While Deeney focused on Salah, it was not just the Egyptian at fault for Liverpool’s lack of clinical finishing. The team created plenty of chances but often fell short in the final third.
Diaz and Nunez were guilty of wastefulness as well, meaning the Reds could have extended their lead comfortably.
In the end, Liverpool earned their win, but with sharper decision-making and more composed finishing, the scoreline could have been far more convincing. Salah, in particular, will need to rediscover his edge if Liverpool are to keep pushing forward in the Premier League.
