Former Manchester United manager and current Austria manager Ralf Rangnick has heaped praises on Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
Ibrahima Konate has been one of the most high-performing defenders for the Reds in recent years.
Despite the injury concerns for the French defender, his on field performances have proven that he is the right man for the job.
Especially after Joel Matip’s departure at the end of the 2023-24 season, the 25-year-old has become an integral part of Liverpool’s first-team setup.
Since joining the Merseyside giants back in 2021, he has featured in 106 games across all competitions over the span of three years.
However, before joining the mighty Reds, the defender was making waves in the German league, the Bundesliga.
Moreover, the man who was responsible for the young defender’s RB Leipzig move praised him in a recent interview.

The present Austria national team manager Ralf Rangnick had previously been a successful sporting director and manager of the Red Bull franchise across the globe.
However, the discovery and showcasing of Konate can be attributed to him. Speaking via Canal+, Rangnick told the Frenchman,
“I remember very well the day our scouting department in Leipzig showed clips from your Sochaux days. I instantly fell in love with your game.
I saw straight away you were an amazing person and player with a top-class upbringing. All of the latter proved true. You are without doubt the best signing, or one of the best signings, we did at Leipzig in the last 12 years.”
This claim is further solidified by the recent performance of Konate. His on-pitch presence is beyond comprehension as the tall, fast and strong Frenchman outshines opponents in critical situations.
If he continues to play like this, he will surely become one of the greats at Liverpool and potentially be a rightful successor of a slowly ageing Virgil van Dijk.
