Liverpool have no plans to appoint outgoing Monaco sporting director, Paul Mitchell, as they undergo an overhaul of staff around Jurgen Klopp, according to the Independent.

However, it has now been clarified that he is not in the running to become Liverpool’s new sporting director.

The Anfield club has faced an upheaval in their technical staff over the last year, with Michael Edwards leaving in the summer and Julian Ward now set to follow.

Mitchell confirmed on Wednesday that he will leave his position with the Ligue 1 club this summer. He has been at the club for three years and has 12 months on his contract.

Reports have claimed that Mitchell has held talks with the Merseysiders to succeed the departing sporting director, Ward. However, it has been clarified that the 41-year-old would not be joining Liverpool.

Ward made the surprise announcement in November that he will leave the club at the end of this season. He replaced Michael Edwards as sporting director last summer but now desires to have a break from football.

However, Ward will remain heavily involved in the recruitment of players for the summer transfer window. He would oversee the groundwork for the majority of whichever targets Liverpool eventually decides to pursue.

Paul Mitchell to head back to England?

The 41-year-old has previously worked in England for MK Dons, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur. It is believed that he would want a return to England with a number of Premier League clubs in the race for his services. Paul Mitchell told the press about Monaco and his experience at the club while his announcement.

“Yes, it was a very difficult decision. I loved my experience at this club. I have always felt a lot of support from President Dmitry Rybolovlev and the Principality.

But I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”

While it has now been claimed that if Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led consortium buys Manchester United, Paul Mitchell is expected to play a position in any INEOS football organization.
