Pearce Reveals Why Liverpool Declined Marseille’s Bid For Wataru Endo!

It was revealed on Sunday night that Liverpool had turned down Marseille’s €14 million (£11.8 million) bid for Wataru Endo.

James Pearce of The Athletic reported the news first, outlining the three main factors that led to the Reds rejecting the Ligue 1 team’s approach.

Anfield executives made their decision based on a number of important considerations, including the timing of the offer, the absence of viable alternatives for signing a successor, and the demands of the team Arne Slot is now working with.

With numerous Bundesliga teams showing interest in Endo, it’s uncertain at this time whether Marseille will give it another shot.

Highlights of Wataru Endo Against Real Betis

Despite Endo’s performance against Real Betis on Friday night being unimpressive, Liverpool would be stupid to allow him to depart without first letting another defensive midfielder go unless a team made an incredibly compelling offer.

Even with the 31-year-old at Anfield and players like Stefan Bajcetic, Curtis Jones, and Alexis Mac Allister capable of playing at number six, Richard Hughes is reportedly prioritizing that position during the current transfer window.

The Reds may have accepted Marseille’s offer if they had already signed a holding midfield player this summer.

Last August, after attempts to recruit Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo failed, they signed the opportunistic £16 million player from Stuttgart.

Given the situation, Liverpool was correct to turn down the offer for a player who showed himself to be a seasoned, reliable presence in the Reds’ engine room for a large portion of the previous year.

He may prove to be a valuable resource as yet another demanding campaign draws near.
