Paul Merson has praised Trent Alexander Arnold and has said that the Liverpool defender is the best passer of the ball in England.
Liverpool have had a season to forget and one of the players who had been getting the stick is the 24-year-old defender.
Many pundits have critiqued the England international regarding his defensive prowess and haven’t particularly praised him. Moreover, he has moved into the midfield under Klopp and is yet to fully adapt to his hybrid position.
However, since playing in the midfield and defence whenever required, Trent has received applause from many pundits. The former Aston Villa player, Paul Merson seems to be one of them as well.
Merson speaks highly of Trent
While writing in Sportskeeda, the former player spoke highly of the Englishman and said that he liked Trent’s new role.
He even went on to say that Trent is the best passer in England and could spray the ball all over the pitch.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best passer of the ball in England. He can spray the ball all over the pitch, and he can put it on a six-pence.
He doesn’t play safe passes and will rip it up against lesser teams, but I don’t know if it’ll work against the big guns. His passing is second to none at Liverpool and I like what he’s trying – it’s very expansive.”
While many critics have spoken negatively about Trent’s defending, there is no denying the fact that he is a world-class passer of the ball.
Merson’s claim couldn’t be denied and his wide range of passing has been a key to the way Liverpool play.
He along with Robertson on the other wing were one of the best ball-playing defenders when Liverpool dominated and won the UCL.
Trent can hit 60-yard diagonals, crosses from deep, crosses from the by-line, and killer through balls. Also not to forget, he could bang in a few goals from free kicks.
He’s blessed with a talent that very few people have, and he deserves to be acknowledged for his brilliance.
As Merson says, nobody in England can hold a torch to Alexander-Arnold when it comes to passing ability.
