Should Liverpool sign a midfielder to replace Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool have not yet made any move in this summer’s transfer market for any Midfielder, who can fill the shoes left behind Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchmen officialy left the club on 1st of July 2021 on a free transfer to join the French gaints Paris Saint-Germain. Wijnaldum joined Liverpool way back in 2016 for a transfer fee of £25m from Newcastle United.

Since joining the Reds Gini played a crucial role in the midfield for Liverpool. Thus, helping the club to secure a Champions League trophy in 2019. Adding on, an European Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup in the same year. Moreover, he was also the part of the most awaited trophy for Liverpool i.e. of the Premier League, which the Reds secured in their 2019-20 campaign after a 30 year long wait.

Making 237 appearances for the Reds, the 30-years-old scored 22 goals and made 15 assist for Liverpool. Thus, his contribution to the team was way beyond the stats and finding a replacement for him was always going to be difficult for Jurgen Klopp.

However, Jurgen Klopp still belives that the current squad is capable enough to compete across Europe. Speking about the any more signings this summer Jurgen said

“There’s no need to buy a midfielder just because there’s one on the market. If people think about it, there’s no real need [for a midfielder]. If there was one player who could improve all the things, then we would go for it.”

Looking at the current squad, there are still a lot of options available for Klopp to play in the Midfield.

Speaking about the young lads, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are already looking quite good in the mid. Meanwhile, Thiago and Henderson could pair up alongside Fabinho in the controlling the pace of the game for the Reds. Although many fans are still feeling nervy with other clubs strengthening their squad and thus are expecting more signings from Jurgen before the transfer window closes.
