Kostas Tsimikas Liverpool

On 11th August 2020, Liverpool Signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos for 11.75 Million Pounds. He is the second Greek international to play for The Reds. Tsmikas debut match was against Lincoln City in the EFL Cup where Liverpool won 7 – 2.

With Andy Robertson being the sole left-back, Kostas Tsimikas was bought by The Reds to increase the squad depth at the left-back position.

Kostas Tsimikas for Liverpool

Kostas Tsimikas couldn’t spend much time on the field in his debut season. As the Reds didn’t have stability in the center of the field. With Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez all Injured, Jurgen Klopp was unable to rotate his wing-backs.

In his debut season, Kostas had only seven appearances for the Reds. But in this season he has already surpassed that number. His game against Atletico Madrid in the champions league this Wednesday was his eighth appearance for the Merseyside in this season.

Tsimikas has shown that he is a perfect replacement for Andy Robertson, as he perfectly fits Liverpool’s playing style. With Andy returning from injury at the start of this season and he is not performing at his level best. Pundits think it’s time for Tsimikas to go up the pecking order and play in the team more than Robertson.

Jurgen Klopp On Tsimikas

The Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp shares his view on the left-backs.

But it’s good that we have the option that we can give Robbo a rest in moments, even when he doesn’t like it and doesn’t need it in his understanding.

But you need these quality players and when you have a quality player like Kostas Tsimikas then you have to let him free from time to time.

He had a long time, what he needed, to adapt to all the things we do, but this process is done now.

He is obviously a really good football player and we are really happy to have him.

The arrival of Tsimikas to the Reds pushed Robertson to do his best and keep his place in the starting line-up. Likewise, there should be a tough competition for every position so nobody takes their starting place for granted in the Liverpool squad.

Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino could show their class as they might get more opportunities now. With Roberto Firmino’s injury being a serious one, If these two perform well we might not need to sign a forward this January to fill the absence of Salah and Mane who will be missing a month due to the African cup of nations.
