There are a host of first-choice starters that have entered into their final year of contract terms and Sadio Mane is one of them, whose stay at Anfield might end in the summers of 2023.
This season Sadio Mane scored his 100th goal for Liverpool while last month he registered himself in the Centurian club of Premier League goals. Thus, with this, Mane became the third African behind Salah and Drogba to score 100 PL goals.
Sadio Mane was the first signing for Jurgen Klopp arriving from Southampton for £34 million. The Senegalese star helped the Reds in reaching the top four and then gradually challenge for titles.
Mane peaked in the season in which Liverpool won the Champions League while finishing second in the Premier League on 97 points.
The Liverpool star was instrumental in Liverpool winning the Champions League and the League title in the following year.
But since then he has been on a road to decline. In the 2020/21 season, Mane was unable to live up to his previously set standards. As the Senegal forward was only able to score 11 goals in his 35 league appearances.
But this season he is going well with 8 goals in 15 games all competition so far. According to Fotmob Mane has registered an average of 7.36 points every Premier League game and this shows that he is still a very important asset in the Liverpool squad.
Why is Sadio Mane important for Liverpool?
Given Jurgen Klopp’s style of high energy, high pressing. Sadio Mane is very well-suited to it. Moreover, the amount of ground he covers with the pace he possesses is simply frightening for any defence.
The Liverpool No. 10 understands his teammates very well. Whether it is Firmino, Salah, or whoever it is, Mane coordinates quite well with the squad.
As a result, he is hard to read or pick up. He finds pockets of space in the opposition’s box which allows him to get the finishing touch.
A ‘Perfect Klopp Player’ who is vital in build-up play and important in a counter-attack. And in front of goal, he is simply outstanding.
Although he’s finishing these days does let him down sometimes.
But any observer of the game, who understands the role an individual has to play in any successful team will always appreciate what Sadio Mane does and what he brings to the team.
He is at a club which suits him very well.
Will Mane leave in the summer of 2023 or will Liverpool offer him a new contract ?
Moreover, The Athletic‘s James Pearce has also stated that Sadio Mane is in line for a lucrative deal to extend his stay beyond 2023.
Liverpool have already extended the contracts with several first-team players. And extending Mane’s contract will be a big boost for the former Premier League champions.
There is no doubt Liverpool needs to freshen up the attacking options and look beyond the trio of Salah, Mane, and Firmino.
But perhaps contract extensions for Salah, Mane, and Firmino are required. Especially for protecting their values and ensuring they do not push for moves elsewhere.
Well, it will be quite interesting to see if and when will Liverpool tie up their front line with new contract offerings.
