There are possibilities that Roberto Firmino might play in a new position this season after already being tested by Jurgen Klopp last year in the FA Cup.

Roberto Firmino has been a pivotal player for the Reds since he joined the club back in 2015 from the German side Hoffenheim. The 30-year-old plays as an attacker for Merseyside and have produced ample goals for Liverpool and the Brazil national team.

The Brazilian striker has scored 10 goals and also assisted 4 goals (stats via FBref.com) in all competitions. Firmino scored 5 of these goals in the UEFA Champions League by just making 7 appearances.

However, Booby Firmino missed many games last season. As the 30-year-old was injured and played only 20 matches in the whole season. While due to the injury, other players like Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz got the chance to show their skills.

How will Roberto Firmino fit in Liverpool’s squad for the upcoming season

When Roberto Firmino returned from injury, Liverpool faced Cardiff City in the FA Cup. The Brazilian forward played quite a different role during the Cardiff game. Instead of playing the role of number 10 or number 9, Klopp asked him to play deeper. Thus, Booby played on the left side as a number 8 attacking midfielder.

The tactic was successful as Firmino took the ball in some dangerous positions and then Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones were free and the space got open for them to attack which led to a 3-1 victory over Cardiff City.

Now, Liverpool have signed many players this season and also there are young players who will contribute in the outfield. Players like Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho will add more energy and speed in the current squad.

Therefore, there are possibilities that we might see Roberto Firmino again playing like the number 8 and feeding balls to Nunez and Carvalho. Although the Brazilian might not feature that frequently but he could often be used as a super-sub.
