Ibrahima Konate was taught some “harsh lessons” on Debut: Klopp

Jurgen Klopp feels that Ibrahima Konate was taught some "harsh lessons" on his debut for Liverpool.

On matchday 5 of the Premier League season 2021-22, Liverpool beats Crystal Palace by 3-0 at Anfield. The spotlight was supposed to be on the debut boy Ibrahima Konate, but it was eventually overshadowed by the record-breaking performances by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for Ibrahima Konate after his competitive debut for Liverpool. However, the Reds boss also thinks that the Premier League might have taught some “harsh lessons to Konate on his Liverpool premiere.

The 22-years-old defender was been signed by the Reds in the month of June from RB Leipzig for £36 million. He had to wait a long time to finally make his first appearance for the Reds. Finally, the French international got his chance after waiting for 5 fixtures following an enthralling comeback against AC Milan in the mid-week.

Jurgen Klopp speaks out on the performance of the debut boy Ibrahima Konate.

Pairing Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk at the centre-back, Klopp was quite happy with the Frenchmen’s performance. He helped the Reds to keep the clean sheet in a hard-fought 3-0 win. Commenting about the match the Liverpool manager said

“The Premier League teaches harsh lessons. Today was a good example. Crystal Palace playing with first Benteke, then Edouard, Zaha all the time cutting inside, Ayew around.”

Displaying his pace, ability to read the game, and physical strength, the debut boy will be quite happy with his performance. Thus, impressing Klopp on his debut might earn him frequent starts for the Reds in the upcoming fixtures.

Admitting Konate’s potential Klopp said

“I think we all saw what kind of potential the boy has, it’s incredible. Physicality, technique, game understanding is all there,”

However, Konate is still very young and have a lot to learn paring alongside players who have a bucket full of experience.

What’s next for Liverpool

Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Carrow Road as they play against Norwich City in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
