Sadio Mane to follow his idol and fight for a move to La Liga?

Sadio Mane

According to recent reports from Goal.com, Sadio Mane is open to a move to La Liga. The recent AFCON winner has a few suitors in Spain.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are said to be interested in the 29 years old winger.

According to Chris Burton of Goal,

Talk of interest from afar being shown in Mane is nothing new, with Real Madrid and Barcelona having been sniffing around for some time.

Sadio Mane headed to Spain soon?

While Mane is still an important part of the Liverpool setup, he has entered the last 18 months of his contract. And according to the report, no formal negotiations have started between Liverpool and Sadio Mane for the renewal of the contract.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are more focused on Salah’s contract renewal rather than Mane’s and Firmino’s, whose contract also expires in 18 months.

The report also suggested that Mane is looking for a salary hike in his new contract. However, Mane has not come out and expressed any dissatisfaction with his current contract in public.

Despite this interest, Liverpool have not received any formal offers for the 29-year-old. Luis Diaz’s signing, meanwhile, can affect Mane’s decision.

Diaz is being referred to as Mane’s perfect replacement and we could see a reduction in Sadio Mane’s gametime. It is also typical FSG policy to bring the replacement before the player leaves.

Mane’s recent dip in form could also add to his departure.

While FC Barcelona is currently going through a financial crisis, Mane could choose the Catalonian club over Real Madrid.

In an interview before facing Barcelona at Camp Nou in 2019, Sadio Mane had expressed his love for Ronaldinho. He had said that as a kid he had imagined running on the Camp Nou just like his idol.

Playing for Barcelona has been Sadio Mane’s dream and if Barca does come knocking, it will be difficult for Liverpool to keep hold of their star.

Do you think Liverpool should let the 29-year-old leave the club and go to Spain? Or do you think he should remain at the club despite the potential reduced time?
