Neco Williams has not reported for pre-season training at Liverpool, as transfer interest from the new Premier League clubs is high.
Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship winners Fulham, Williams returned to Liverpool. His impressive show at Cottagers caught the eyes of many Premier League sides, especially the newly promoted ones.
The Welshman is down the pecking order at Merseyside after Klopp signed another right-back in Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen for £6.5 million.
The 18-year-old is still in his young days in football with plenty of potential. The Scotsman is expected to provide cover and competition for first-choice Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Williams seems to be a surplus requirement at Anfield, as the 21-year-old is expected to leave Liverpool this summer.
With transfer interest increasing from several clubs, where will Neco Williams end up away from Liverpool?
After a good show at Fulham and having promotion back to top-flight, Craven Cottage seemed like Williams’ next destination. However, South coast side Southampton showing great interest and seems to be preparing to bid for the Welshman.
But latest reports to Football Insider suggest that a source close to Forest has told them that “they have tabled a lucrative long-term contract offer to Williams that he has agreed in principle.”
The news comes off the back initial offer for the right-back from Forest has been turned down.
Liverpool are looking for a fee of around £15 million to be persuaded to sell Williams. But so far, there are no reports indicating an agreement between the two clubs has been found.
With his obvious talent and World Cup this year, Williams will want to be part of the first-team playing regularly. With no future in the Liverpool first-team, the Welshman will force to move away.
Despite his reports of transfer, Williams was listed in arrivals for the beginning of Liverpool’s pre-season training on Monday. However, he was not present at the training.
With multiple clubs showing interest and being linked, it will be intriguing to see who meets the price tag set by Liverpool for the Williams. But surely, this transfer could go until the latter stages of the window.
