Liverpool in FA Cup
The Third round Fixtures of FA Cup is said to be between January 7th to January 10th. While Liverpool ends this festive season against Chelsea on January 2nd.
It’s been nine years since Liverpool won the FA Cup trophy. Moreover, under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have never gone beyond the fifth round in FA Cup. The last time the Reds won the FA Cup was way back in 2011/12 defeating Chelsea 2-1 in Wembley.
This January is a very important month for the Reds as they have three Premier League fixtures and one FA cup confirmed. Moreover, a win against Leicester City in the EFL Cup Quarterfinals will add two matchdays for the Merseyside club.
Due to the inaugural African cup of nations in January, Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita will all leave for Africa to represent their respective countries in the tournament. Thus, the Reds will be looking forward to the upcoming transfer window in order to fill the void places left behind by the African players in the squad.
Liverpool must focus on winning the FA Cup and EFL cup this season. As well as make sure they don’t drop points in January as the Reds are currently sitting second on the table.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp is often criticised for his lack of trophies in domestic competitions. Thus, this time it seems like the Liverpool boss is quite happy with the quality of depth in his squad. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can overcome their domestic trophy drought this season.
