EFL Cup semifinals: Arsenal vs Liverpool

The EFL has accepted the request of Liverpool to postpone their semifinals tie against Arsenal and reschedule it for a later date.

Initially, the fixture was scheduled to take place on Thursday evening (GMT) but due to the increment in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Liverpool camp the fixture is now been rescheduled.

First, it was the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and now it is the assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who is tested positive for the virus. Soon after the reports were out, Liverpool had to temporarily close down their training centre on Wednesday.

The club also released an official statement on Liverpool’s official website stating

The club’s submission to have the fixture rescheduled has been approved by the EFL due to the increasing number of suspected positive COVID-19 cases among players and staff

The latest round of testing on Tuesday returned a significant number of positives, including Pepijn Lijnders, who was due to take charge of the Reds at Emirates Stadium

Thus, because of the unavailability of the number of players and staff members the fixture is now being postponed. While Pep Lijnders, who was supposed to be in charge of this game is now being kept in isolation.

When will Arsenal vs Liverpool EFL Cup semifinals clash take place after the postponement?

The fixture will now be taking place on the 13th of January 2022. Previously on this date, the 2nd leg of the semifinals was planned to take place.

Thus, now the 2nd leg is also being shifted on 20th January 2022. Moreover, the venus have also been exchanged as now the first leg will take place at Anfield and the return fixture will transpire at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will now be preparing to face Shrewsbury in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on 9th January.
