Young Sofie Lundgaard is acquired by Liverpool from Fortuna Hjorring.
The Scousers welcome the Danish talent as their new signing. With her amazing performance, she will surely bring her excellence on and off the pitch and in the locker room.
Sofie Lundgaard to provide more options in the Liverpool midfield
The 20-year-old midfielder has featured in more than 100 senior games since making her top-division debut at the age of 17. Lundgaard will don number 15 for the Reds and has already represented her nation at the Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 levels.
“I’ve heard a lot of times that this group is a good group and this is a club with ambitions and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
Lundgaard joins former captain Gemma Bonner in joining Liverpool in the January transfer window.
She is a promising young prospect that has been under observation for about six months, as manager Matt Beard is aware. Her improvement so far has greatly impressed the Reds, and they are eager to see how it develops going ahead.
Lundgaard and Bonner to help the Reds get to the next level
The Reds shocked defending champions Chelsea with a victory in their first home game of the 2022–23 WSL season, earning them promotion back to the WSL earlier this year following a strong display in the Championship. Only Ashley Hodson has made more appearances for Liverpool in the professional era than Bonner’s 115 during her previous six-year tenure with the team. Before departing for Manchester City in 2018, the 31-year-old defender guided Liverpool to back-to-back WSL championships in 2013 and 2014.
Matt Beard, who managed Liverpool from 2012 to 2015 and had held positions at Boston Breakers, West Ham, and Bristol before coming back in 2021, was reunited with the center-back thanks to the deal. Additionally, Liverpool will undoubtedly have alternatives and depth in its roster after the addition of Lundgaard.
