Liverpool FC’s fresh-faced manager, Arne Slot, is already sailing in the stormy seas just days into his new role at Anfield. After replacing Jurgen Klopp earlier this year, Slot now has to contend with the potential absence of nine key first-team players for Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, due to their international commitments.

Slot joined Liverpool following a successful three-year stint at Feyenoord. He is now preparing for a crucial pre-season in America.

The Reds are scheduled to face Arsenal in Philadelphia on July 31, followed by a match against Manchester United in South Carolina on August 3.

This pre-season is particularly important for Slot as he looks to establish his presence and strategy ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, which kicks off in mid-August.

However, his plans are very complicated to fulfil as several Liverpool first-team players will be busy with their international duties.

Slot Will Miss These Players In Pre-Season

England players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez will miss the tour as Gareth Southgate’s team advanced to the Euro 2024 semi-finals after defeating Switzerland on penalty shootouts.

Likewise, Dutch internationals Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch are expected to be absent while Netherlands progressed past Turkey. They will face England in the semi-final.

Also, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate will face Spain in the semi-finals with France’s national team. Meanwhile, three more Liverpool players are busy in Copa America.

Darwin Nunez is shining spectacularly for Uruguay as they advanced to the semi-final after defeating Brazil in the penalty shootout. Nunez will face his Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz in the semi-final match against Columbia.

Additionally, Alexis Mac Allister is busy with the Argentina national team in their semi-final against Canada.

Typically, Liverpool grant their players a minimum three-week break following their international tournaments.

This means some of these players might not return to Merseyside until August. This delay places a significant hurdle in Slot’s path as he seeks to integrate his key players and develop team cohesion before the Premier League season begins.

On a positive note, Brazil’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Portuguese forward Diogo Jota, Scotland’s Andy Robertson and Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai will be able to join the squad in the United States. Mo Salah and Endo will also be available as they are not participating in the Olympic Games.
