Liverpool star Mohamed Salah mourns the sudden death of Egyptian teammate Ahmed Refaat, 31, who tragically passed away from a heart attack.
Refaat had a decade-long career in Egyptian and Emirati football. He played most recently for Modern Sport in Cairo. His death was confirmed after he was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of Saturday Morning.
As the nation processed this heartbreaking news, Salah took to social media to share his grief along with a photo of Refaat.
He shared his condolences to the family and loved ones of the departed. His deeply emotional message translates into:
“May God grant patience to his family and all his loved ones.”
Refaat had encountered health challenges earlier this year when he suffered a cardiac arrest during a match in March that led to a nine-day induced coma.
Just last week, he spoke to the media about his health. He signalled the end of his playing career also.
Throughout his career, Refaat represented the youth as well as the senior national teams. He has seven appearances for the senior national team, including one alongside Salah.

The Egyptian Football Association has also released a statement expressing condolences and solidarity with everyone associated with the organisation. They said they will,
“mourn Ahmed Refaat, the player of the national team and Modern Sport Club, praying to God Almighty to have mercy on him and inspire his family and relatives with patience and solace. To God we belong and to Him we shall return.”
