Three key players could leave Liverpool come the end of the season if the club successfully navigates their way to the Premier League trophy at the end of the 2024-25 season.

One of the biggest stories of the season for Liverpool Football Club has been the inability to tie down star players to commit their future to the club and sign new contracts.

The players in question are Mohamed Salah, captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

At the start of the season, these players were entering the final year of their Reds’ contracts and 7 months into the campaign, fans are still rocked by news of the club being unable to iron out contract details and put pen-to-paper with them.

Which key Liverpool players could depart should they secure the Premier League?

Sky Sports’ Paul Merson stated in a recent report that,

“I don’t think any of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Virgil van Dijk stay if Liverpool win the Premier League this season, I don’t see why they have not signed now?”

The veteran pundit and commentator, Merson, is of the opinion that if they win the League title again following their last success in 2020 under Jurgen Klopp, he does not see what else they can do at the club.

Slot and his stars are looking to secure the title this season in front of the Kop, as the last success was during the COVID era which had no fans present in stadiums.

Alexander-Arnold has been the subject of interest from Real Madrid for a while now, with the Spanish giants even making advances to sign the right-back in the January transfer window, which Liverpool absolutely turned down.

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have continually stated their desires to continue at the club beyond their contracts which expire in June 2025.

The three players are now in their last 5 months at the club, except they sign new contracts and none of the trio have signed yet.

Honestly, it is a very crazy situation for the club and their fans, one they would rather have hoped to avoid but it remains to be seen if all three players will leave at the end of the season or sign new contracts to keep them at Anfield.

Slot’s side continue their charge for the Premier League crown next week when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the Merseyside Derby.

That fixture is also Liverpool’s game in hand over Arsenal in the title race, and they will be looking to secure all three points alongside derby bragging rights.
