Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee got approval from Erik Ten Hag to travel to Liverpool to meet his Bologna teammates. As Champions League action returns to Anfield, Liverpool is set to take on Italian side Bologna in match week 2.
Zirkzee was a key player for Bologna last season under manager Thiago Motta. Zirkzee helped the Italian side to get a Champions League spot. The 23 year old moved to Manchester this summer for £36.5 million, but the love for his old team is still there.
Joshua Zirkzee travels to Liverpool to meet Bologna teammates
The 23 year old did not want to travel to Liverpool to meet his old teammates without the approval of his club. He was reportedly at the hotel where the Bologna players were staying till 10:30 pm on Tuesday, before flying to Portugal for Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Porto.
Things haven’t been great for Bologna this season. With key players such as Joshua Zirkzee, Riccardo Calafiori leaving along with their manager Thiago Motta. Bologna currently sit 13th in the Serie A table, their first UCL match against Shakhtar Donetsk ended in a draw.
Zirkzee’s new life at Manchester United has not been easy as well, with United struggling to win games in the Premier League. Zirkzee has just one goal in six Premier League appearances.
Joshua Zirkzee managed to score a late winner in Manchester United’s first Premier League game against Fulham, but the Dutchmen has failed to get on the scoresheet after that.
