Liverpool and Chelsea will challenge at Wembley Stadium for the 141st FA Cup final. For the second time this season, both sides are up against each other for the domestic cup final.
On Saturday when both Liverpool and Chelsea walk onto the Wembley pitch, the players will play along with the pitch which is in perfect condition.
Just 17 days ago, Wembley hosted a boxing match between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte. In a game watched over 100,000 people saw Fury beat Whyte at the London’s Wembley Stadium.
Fury defended his WBC and the Ring heavyweight titles in front of the largest post-war crowd the UK has ever seen. And after that just 17 days later English top-flight heavyweights Liverpool and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the oldest football competition in the world.
Ground staff pulls off a miraculous job in order to ready FA Cup final pitch.
After the successful conclusion of the boxing game, which saw the biggest crowd and also with the FA Cup final around the corner the ground staff did an incredible job.
Both the Reds and the Blues players will think nothing of the pristine surface they will play on as long. The pitch certainly looks like a carpet.
Images uploaded to Twitter on Saturday evening by Karl Standley, the FA’s head groundsman, appeared to show the extent of the damage done with a ‘before and after comparison of the pitches. Chelsea and Liverpool may have been horrified to see the condition of the pitch.
But just two-and-a-half weeks later, Wembley’s busy ground staff from pulling off a miracle in time for the clash.
Standley praised his team for the turnaround on social media writing:
Fury Vs Whyte, 94,000 and 12,000 on pitch with hundreds of tonnes around the canopy/ring,
Emirates Cup final, 17 days in between images on a grass surface. Incredibly proud of my team on this turnaround.
Surely, there will no complaints from either Jurgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel, given the turnaround of events in such a short time.
