The Liverpool post-Klopp era under Arne Slot has been a delight so far and particularly for the Colombian winger Luis Diaz who has flourished under the Dutchman this season.
Liverpool have been talking a lot about Luis Diaz’s amazing start to the season.
With five goals so far Diaz has surpassed Mohamed Salah in the scoring charts demonstrating a far more acute and clinical edge in front of goal.
This progress is mostly due to the tactical changes implemented by new manager Arne Slot who has focused on improving Diaz’s positioning and movements to put him in a better position to score.
Luis Diaz thriving under Arne Slot at Liverpool
Diaz has admitted that working with Slot has improved his efficiency emphasizing both his finishing and his arrival in goal-scoring areas.
He said on Sky Sports,
“I think the training sessions are helping a lot, Also, the confidence the coach and the team give you when everyone is playing well and things are going well.
I think confidence is really important. But then there is also the hard work I am doing every day on my finishing and my movements.”
The teams overall attacking cohesion helps Diaz as the system now places a strong emphasis on creating goals collectively.
Players like Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez have flourished under Slot’s philosophy and the teams tactical structure has been a major factor in creating more goal-scoring opportunities.
Apart from the strategic adjustments Diaz’s performance could have been enhanced by extracurricular elements like the rumors about his future transfer and Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon of Newcastle.
Diaz was free to concentrate on his game since the deal fell through and he was able to keep his starting spot without any competition right away.
Arne Slot said about Diaz,
“He had a very good Copa America tournament with Colombia and maybe that helped him as well after a season where he was maybe a bit unlucky, I don’t know.
He was not unlucky to be playing for Liverpool but maybe in his finishing.
But he had a good tournament but he came back in the same way he played in the tournament.”
Since Diaz is now one of Liverpool’s most effective attacking weapons Slot will need to maintain the wingers output throughout the campaign. All of these factors have contributed to Diaz’s explosive start.
