Liverpool are hot on the trail of Newcastle United’s star forward Anthony Gordon this summer, as reported by CaughtOffside.
The 23-year-old forward had an impressive season last year, making notable contributions against Liverpool in both their premier league matches.
His standout performance has caught the attention of Liverpool scouts, who are now more than ready to bring him to Anfield.
Despite a strong interest Liverpool are yet to make any notable progress in negotiations. Newcastle United are holding firm on their stance of a valuation of £70 m to £75 m for Gordon.
Not to mention Manchester United and Chelsea are also in the race to sign him. But Liverpool appear to be the most determined among others.
If the Reds can not strike a deal in the case, they have identified other potential targets including Mohammed Kudus, Eberechi Eze, and Nico Williams to recruit for their attacking arsenal.
Why Liverpool Need Gordon?
Last season Gordon has shown the Premier League what he is capable of, which earned him a place in the England national team squad for the European Championship.
Although he has not yet played in the competition, his domestic performances have proved that he has the qualities needed to thrive in Liverpool’s high-pressing system. His speed, technical skill, and attacking skill make him an attractive prospect.
However, getting Gordon’s signature will be very challenging. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is not under any pressure to sell his players.
They have already balanced their finance sheet with the sales of Elliott Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.
The financial stability allows them to stand firm on their valuation of Gordon, complicating things for Liverpool.
The potential signing of Gordon is a hot topic for debate. There will be questions on whether Liverpool should splash out such a hefty sum for him.
With a £75 m price tag, he will become one of the club’s priciest signings. This will bring immense pressure on Gordon to perform immediately at a high level.
Despite his impressive profile his price tag is a considerable risk no doubt. Again, his ability to integrate into Liverpool’s playing style makes him a very enticing prospect.
So, what do you think, is splurging £75 m on Anthony Gordon the game-changer Liverpool need?
