Liverpool Keen On Gordon
Liverpool are reportedly encouraged in their pursuit of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, following initial talks that broke down last month.
Earlier in the summer, Liverpool were linked with Gordon ahead of the Premier League PSR deadline.
Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 for a fee that could rise to £45 million, signing a three-year deal with his current contract set to expire in 2026.
Quiet Window So Far
Liverpool has had a quiet summer transfer window so far, with no significant signings to note.
They have, however, lost several senior players on free transfers, including defender Joel Matip, midfielder Thiago Alcantara, and goalkeeper Adrian, who joined Spanish side Real Betis at the end of his contract.
New head coach Arne Slot is tasked with building on the progress made by Jurgen Klopp, who departed at the end of last season.
Slot will lead Liverpool into the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, which begins against newly-promoted Ipswich Town on August 17.
Plans On Track
In addition to the pursuit of Gordon, Liverpool has also been active in other transfer news. The club reportedly rejected an £11.8 million bid from Ligue 1 side Marseille for defensive midfielder Wataru Endo.
The Athletic reported that the offer was rebuffed by Liverpool, who signed Endo from Bundesliga side Stuttgart just 12 months ago.
The ongoing transfer activity, including the pursuit of Gordon and the retention of key players like Endo, highlights Liverpool’s strategic planning and focus on building a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
