Liverpool target wants more money than Van Dijk and Trent!
Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot reportedly demands more money in wages than skipper Virgil van Dijk, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker.
It is not a secret that the Reds wanted to sign a midfielder this summer, preferably one who could do more defensive work than attacking to fit the needs of Arne Slot’s gameplan.
However, the Anfield side was snubbed by their priority target Martin Zubimendi, the Spanish defensive midfielder who chose to stay at his club Real Sociedad.
This resulted in the club not signing any midfielder this transfer window and relying upon Ryan Gravenberch who quite surprisingly fit into the double pivot of Slot. This new system has gotten the most fairytale start to the 2024-25 season.
This is not the first occurrence of the Merseyside giants not succeeding in signing their desired summer target. Even last summer they could not sign Romeo Lavia or Moises Caicedo and lost the transfer battle to Chelsea.
Liverpool-Rabiot wages issue
The French midfielder recently went out of contract with Italian giants Juventus after winning the Scudetto.
His last campaign at the Bianconeri saw him appear 35 times and after his effortless performance in the EURO 2024, he was one of the most sought-after free agents this summer.
However, despite all this, the 29-year-old remains without a club. Many would wonder what could be the reason behind that.
Well according to reports, Rabiot’s extraordinary wage demands made him a not-so-desirable prospect.
The former PSG star wants a €40 million package over the next three seasons. This would have made him LFC’s second-highest-paid player, earning more than Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker.
Although his experience as a midfielder in the double pivot structure could have been useful to the Reds, the mammoth-sized wages pushed FSG away from the deal.
Hopefully, Liverpool will find a proper midfield solution by January and finally land the signing.
