Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, has emphasized that Anthony Gordon is an essential player for the team amid growing rumours of a possible move to Liverpool.

Howe has stressed that they have no intention of losing any of their top players, despite the persistent speculations regarding Gordon’s future at St. James’ Park. This summer has seen numerous reports linking Gordon to a move to Anfield.

Newcastle had been rumoured to be open to offloading some of their star players. Because they need to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with the June 30 deadline now passed.

Gordon Staying or Heading for Liverpool?

The former Everton forward is a boyhood Reds’ fan and had a short stint at the Reds’ academy before turning a professional player. Magpies boss Howe though has insisted that the 23-year-old is going nowhere. He told reporters.

“We’ve had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative.

He’s always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle and I want to make that clear to all our supporters.

Anthony needs a bit of a break but by the time he comes back, he’ll be ready to go. He’s such an important player for us.

We didn’t want to lose anybody. Why would we want to lose our best players?

We fought really hard to make the right decisions but in those last few weeks it was very, very difficult.”

And his previous comments when asked if he would be in charge of Newcastle at the start of next season indicates the uncertainty surrounding his future at Newcastle.

“As long as I feel supported by the football club and free to work in the way that I want to work, that’s the crucial thing.”

He said in a hint that he may consider his future if the club’s revamped hierarchy after former co-owner Amanda Staveley’s departure. Howe may leave if the club don’t offer him the support he wants.

If Howe decides to leave, they will need to search for a new manager. Additionally, if Liverpool makes a move for Gordon, the Magpies might have to find a replacement for the young forward.
